About Dick Vitale
His voice is one of the greatest of all time in the history of athletics. For decades Dick Vitale has been on the sideline as a coach and color commentator, and always adds excitement no matter what he’s saying or doing. As a coach he posted an overall record of 79-29 at Rutgers from 1973 to 1977 and then briefly coached in the NBA for the Detroit Pistons in 1978-79. At that point he turned his focus towards sports casting and became a true legend. Known for his catchphrases and enthusiastic commentary on huge plays, he is a fan favorite and often people just tune in to hear him call a game. In 1979 he began calling games for ESPN and he’s remained loyal to the network ever since, even venturing over to their parent company, ABC, as well as CBS to call NBA games during the regular season. For his contribution to the game of basketball in the booth he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as an announcer in 2008.
