About Dom Capers
Dom Capers has had a remarkable career in coaching.He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at both Kent State and Washington before landing his first official assistant coaching job at Hawaii in 1975. Over the next decade he established himself as one of the top defensive back coaches in the country while spending time at San Jose State, California, Tennessee and Ohio State.
In 1984 he briefly spent time in that same position with the Philadelphia Stars before making the jump to the NFL with the New Orleans Saints in 1992. During his time as the defensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers, he earned the respect of NFL general managers around the league. His reputation landed him the head-coaching job with the Carolina Panthers in 1995, which led to him being named the NFL Coach of the Year in 1996.
In 2006 he was named head coach of the Houston Texans and became the only man to serve as head coach for two different NFL expansion teams. Capers notably then spent a tenure as defensive coordinator with the Green Bay Packers from 2009-2017 and was part of the staff that helped the franchise win Super Bowl XLV.
