About Doug Collins
Doug Collins is a retired NBA shooting guard and head coach who played nine seasons in the league and last coached with the Philadelphia 76ers. As a player, Collins got his start at Illinois State University, playing three seasons from 1970-1973, earning an All American honor in 1973. Once out of college, Collins was drafted with the first overall pick in the 1973 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. Collins spent his entire career with the 76ers, earning four All Star honors and scoring 7,427 points. After retiring from playing, Collins turned to coaching, serving as an assistant with multiple universities and NBA teams before being hired as the head coach of the Chicago Bulls in 1986. Collins was fired in 1989 after failing to win a title. Six years later, Collins was named head coach of the Detroit Pistons, coaching there for three seasons before being fired in 1998. Collins would serve as a broadcaster between coaching stints, serving as head coach of the Washington Wizards and the Philadelphia 76ers until being fired in 2013.
