About Edgar Renteria
Edgar Renteria was one of the best shortstops of his era. The five-time All-Star originally debuted with the Florida Marlins in 1996 and finished second in National League Rookie of the Year voting. The following season, he became a household name when he had the game-winning hit in Game 7 of the 1997 World Series. After one more year with the Marlins, Renteria went on to be the shortstop of the St. Louis Cardinals for six years. In both 2002 and 2003, he won the Silver Slugger and Gold Glove Awards at his position. Renteria continued to play well in short stints with the Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers before experiencing postseason success again with the San Francisco Giants in 2010. That year, he hit game-winning home runs in Game 2 and Game 5 of the series to win MVP honors. Renteria played one final season with the Cincinnati Reds before retiring.
