About Eric Hipple
Eric Hipple played quarterback for the Detroit Lions beginning in 1980 through the 1989 season. Primarily in a backup role, Hipple was given several chances to start and had his best career season in 1985 when he completed 54.9% of his passes for almost 3,000 yards and 17 TDs. After Hipple's son committed suicide in 2000, he devoted his life to raising awareness for the signs of depression and travels the country to give talks on suicide prevention and mental illnesses. Hipple wrote a book titled "Real Men Do Cry" in which he discusses his time playing in the NFL where he dealt with depression on several occasions.
