About Ian Desmond
Ian Desmond has been a respected offensive threat throughout most of his major league career. Early in his career, he primarily played shortstop with the Washington Nationals and was among the best hitters at his position in the game. He won a National League Silver Slugger Award in each season from 2012-2014. During that 2012 season, Desmond also made his first All-Star squad. That year was the first of three straight 20 homer, 20 stolen base seasons. Since signing as a free agent with the Texas Rangers in 2016, he has been used primarily as an outfielder. That first season in Arlington, Desmond was batting .322 with 15 homers, 55 RBI and 15 stolen bases at midseason. He went back to the Midsummer Classic making his second All-Star bid.
