Jack McDowell

Jack McDowell, also commonly referred to as “Black Jack”, is a former right-handed major league baseball pitcher. McDowell debuted for the White Sox and last played for the Anaheim Angels. His professional career lasted from 1987 to 1999 and over those twelve years, he also split his time with the New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians. McDowell was born in 1966 in Van Nuys, California and although he was drafted three years prior to his professional debut by the Boston Red Sox, he chose to attend and play for Stanford University, instead. Leading them to the 1987 College World Series Championship, he was then drafted that same year by the Chicago White Sox. Throughout his time in the major leagues, McDowell was a three-time All-Star and also a recipient of the American League Cy Young Award. In addition to baseball, playing guitar was a passion of his that he continued to pursue throughout his professional baseball career. McDowell produced four albums throughout his lifetime before his band broke it off four years after his retirement from baseball.
