About Jason Motte
Jason Motte began his pro baseball career as a catcher in the St. Louis Cardinals organization in 2003 but proved to be more valuable for the franchise on the mound. With a rifle for an arm, Motte is able to run the ball up into the triple digits in relief and quickly became one of the best closers in the game after debuting with the Cardinals in 2008. During his rookie season, he posted an impressive 0.82 ERA in 11 starts and overwhelmed opposing hitters with his fastball. He’d go on to help the Cardinals to a World Series title in 2011 and lead the National League with 42 saves in 2012. During the 2012 season, he posted a 2.25 ERA in 78 appearances with 86 strikeouts in 72 innings of work. One of Motte’s assets besides his fastball is his control and calm under pressure. He battled back from Tommy John surgery in 2013 to return to the Cardinals in 2014. Motte went on to play for the Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies and Atlanta Braves, pitching in his last game in 2017.
