About Jay Johnson
Jay Johnson, an American baseball coach and former second baseman, currently leads the LSU Tigers as their head baseball coach. His journey in baseball spans from playing college baseball at Shasta and Point Loma Nazarene to an extensive coaching career that has seen him at the helm of various teams, including Point Loma Nazarene Sea Lions, Nevada Wolf Pack, and the Arizona Wildcats. Notably, Johnson's coaching prowess was recognized when he guided the Nevada Wolf Pack to their first-ever Mountain West title in 2015, earning him the Mountain West Coach of the Year accolade.
Johnson's coaching career is marked by significant achievements and contributions to collegiate baseball. As an assistant and then head coach at Point Loma Nazarene, he led the Sea Lions to a division championship and a #6 national ranking in the NAIA. His tenure at the University of San Diego saw the Toreros win three West Coast Conference championships and make four NCAA Division I Baseball Championship appearances. With Nevada, he achieved a remarkable 72–42 record over two seasons, culminating in a historic Mountain West title. At Arizona, Johnson's leadership took the Wildcats to the College World Series finals in 2016, showcasing his ability to elevate programs to national prominence.
