Jay Schroeder

Jay Schroeder can be remembered either as a Redskin, Raider, Bengal or Cardinal in the National Football League throughout the 1980’s and early ‘90’s. A Milwaukee, Wisconsin native, Schroeder was born in 1961 and grew up with an equal love for the sports of baseball and football. Although he is most recognized as a former NFL quarterback, Schroeder also spent some time playing in the minor leagues under the Toronto Blue Jays. In fact, he was drafted as the third overall pick in the 1979 MLB Draft. Choosing to pursue a football career instead, Schroeder left the minor leagues to play college football at UCLA and ultimately entered the 1984 NFL Draft to be selected in the third round by the Washington Redskins. Schroeder won a Super Bowl Championship with the Redskins (XXII). He was also a Pro Bowl selection in 1986 and played his last season in 1994 with the Arizona Cardinals. Honorably retiring in 1995, Schroeder took a short break from the sport he loved before returning as a coach. He became the offensive coordinator at a Christian High School in California in 2000. Since, he has coached for many other Christian high schools throughout the state and currently shapes young adult lives as a football and golf varsity and junior varsity high school coach.
