About Jeff Banister
Jeff Banister moved through the coaching ranks the old-fashioned way before being named manager of the Texas Rangers in 2015. Banister served in a variety of roles inside the Pittsburgh Pirates since his retirement in 1994. He was a minor league manager, field coordinator, and Pirates’ bench coach from 2011-2014. Banister played in just one major league game for Pittsburgh in 1991 and recorded a hit in his only plate appearance. The Pirates originally drafted him in the 25th round of the 1986 MLB Draft out of the University of Houston. Banister also played at Lee College where he was a Junior College All-American. While at Lee, he overcame a home plate collision that broke three vertebrae and left him paralyzed for ten days.
