About Jim Palmer
MLB pitching legend Jim Palmer was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990 in recognition of the unbelievable contributions he made to the game during his 19 major league seasons from 1965 to 1984. Palmer is one of few player players to spend his entire career with one team, having led the Baltimore Orioles to three World Series championships in three different decades. During the prime of his career from 1973 to 1979 he won three AL Cy Young Awards and four Gold Glove Awards. When all was said and done he had earned six All-Star selections and posted a historic 2.86 ERA and 2,212 strikeouts.
After his playing career he made his way to the booth, announcing games for ABC during two stints from 1984 to 1989 and from 1994 to 1995. In 2012 Palmer auctioned off his Cy Young awards to pay for the education of his grandchildren and to fund the special care required to take care of his autistic stepson. Currently he serves as a member of the advisory board of a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping former MLB, minor league and Negro League players through medical and financial difficulties called the Baseball Assistance Team.
