About Josh Heupel
Josh Heupel began his college football career at Weber State in 1997 after being named the North Dakota State Player of the Year at Central High School in Aberdeen. After one season he transferred to Snow College in Utah and threw for 2,308 yards and 28 touchdowns. During his junior and senior seasons he starred at the University of Oklahoma and earned AP Player of the Year honors in 2001 after leading the Sooners to an undefeated season and NCAA National Championship. That season he was also the runner-up for the Heisman, and awarded the Walter Camp Award as the collegiate player of the year. In the 2001 NFL Draft he was selected in the sixth round and played two years in the NFL with the Dolphins and Green Bay Packers before returning to Oklahoma as a graduate assistant coach in 2004. In 2005 he served as the tight ends coach at Arizona, but then returned to his alma mater as the quarterbacks coach from 2006 to 2010 before taking over duties as the offensive coordinator in 2010.Heupel spent four seasons in the role before taking similar opportunities at Utah State and Missouri. After guiding a top-five FBS offense for the Tigers in 2017, he was named the head coach at the University of Central Florida. In Heupel's first season, he guided the UCF Knights to a perfect 12-0 season and Fiesta Bowl appearance. After 3 seasons in Orlando, he was hired as the head coach at Tennessee.
