About Kelly Gruber
Kelly Gruber had a successful ten-year career and spent nine seasons at third base for the Toronto Blue Jays. The Cleveland Indians originally selected him with the tenth overall pick in the 1980 MLB Draft. He was then selected by the Blue Jays in the 1983 Rule 5 Draft. He debuted in Toronto in 1984, but did not garner a full-time role until 1987. In 1989, Gruber became the first player to hit for the cycle. That season he earned the first of two straight All-Star berths. Gruber had his best season in 1990, hitting .274 with 31 home runs and 118 RBI. He also won a Gold Glove Award and Silver Slugger Award while finishing fourth in National League MVP voting. In Gruber's final season with the franchise, he helped the Blue Jays win the 1992 World Series. He spent one final season with the Calfornia Angels before retiring in 1993.
