About Lloyd McClendon
Lloyd McClendon has the Seattle Mariners on the upswing. McClendon guided Seattle to an 87-75 record in his first season, which represented a 16-win improvement from 2013. He also served as Pittsburgh Pirates manager from 2001-2005 and went 336-446. The Pirates gave him his first coaching job after his playing days. McClendon also was on Jim Leyland’s staff with the Detroit Tigers, coaching four batting champions in his seven seasons as the hitting coach. He had an eight-year playing career spent with three different teams. The New York Mets originally selected him in the eighth round of the 1980 MLB Draft. McClendon was a two-time all-conference selection at Valparaiso. He first raised eyebrows as a little leaguer on the 1971 Gary, Indiana team that made it to the Little League World Series. McClendon homered in five straight at-bats in that LLWS.
