Marty Brennaman

You may recognize Marty Brennaman’s voice before his name, as he has been the radio voice for the Cincinnati Reds Radio Network since 1974. Brennaman launched his career in broadcasting after growing up in Virginia in the 1940’s and ‘50’s and going on to attend the University of North Carolina. Graduating in 1965, he commenced his broadcasting career with WGHP-TV in High Point, North Carolina before sportscasting for a then-New York Mets’ affiliate team in 1971. Since 1974, Brennaman has stuck with the Reds and has truly made a name for himself. He was selected from over 200 applicants to follow Al Michaels as the play-by-play “Voice of the Reds” and has impressed audiences ever since. Brennaman was honorably inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000 and has been named by the National Sportscaster and Sportswriters Association (NSSA) as the Ohio Sportscaster of the Year twelve times and the Virginia Sportscaster of the Year four times. Brennaman is known for his upbeat personality and his trademark line in which he succeeds the first pitch in each baseball game that he calls with the result of the pitch and the line, “and this game is underway”.
