About Max Scherzer
Max Scherzer is an eight-time All-Star and three-time Cy Young Award winner. Scherzer attended Parkway Central High School where the St. Louis Cardinals drafted him in 2003. Scherzer declined the offer and attended the University of Missouri to play baseball. The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Scherzer in the 1st round as the 11th overall pick in the 2006 MLB Draft. Scherzer spent two years in the minor leagues before he was called up to the Diamondbacks in 2008.
Scherzer made his debut with the Diamondbacks on April 29, 2008 against the Houston Astros. In 2009, Scherzer became a full-time starter for the Diamondbacks filling the 5th starter position. Scherzer was traded to the Detroit Tigers in 2010 as part of a three-team trade. On January 21, 2015, Scherzer signed a seven-year, $210 million contract with the Washington Nationals. He made six All-Star teams in seven seasons with the Nats. Scherzer also helped the club win their first World Series in 2019.
The World Series victory cemented Scherzer's place as the best pitcher of the decade. He led baseball in wins on four separate occasions, consistently starting over 30 games and posting over 200 strikeouts a year. Before every game, Scherzer dedicates his starts to his brother who committed suicide in 2012.
