Mike Gartner

Mike Gartner played 20 seasons in the NHL with the Washington Capitals, Minnesota North Stars, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Phoenix Coyotes from 1979 to 1998. Gartner was born and raised in Ontario, Canada and got his start in hockey as an amateur player in the OMJHL with the St. Catharines Black Hawks and Niagara Falls Flyers. In 1978 he helped Team Canada to a bronze medal in the World Junior Championships. In 1979 he was selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the NHL Draft by the Washington Capitals, and went on to score 708 goals and add 627 assists for a total of 1,335 points in 1,432 career NHL games. During his career he played in seven All-Star games, recorded the most consecutive 30-goal seasons in NHL history with 15, and most total 30-goal seasons in history with 17. During that time he also represented Team Canada on the world stage and helped them to four World Championships and a bronze medal at the 1982 and 1983 Olympic games. Gartner was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001 and had his legendary No. 11 Washington Capitals jersey retired in 2008.
