About Mike Keenan
Mike Keenan was born and raised in Ontario, Canada and got his first coaching job in hockey at Forest Hill Collegiate Institute. In 1977 he signed on to head up the Oshawa Legionnaires in the Metro Junior B Hockey League, and led his team to back-to-back championships in 1979 and 1980. Over the next four years he coached the Peterborough Petes and Rochester Americans, leading them to an American Hockey League Championship in 1983. In 1984 the Philadelphia Flyers hired him as their new head coach. Upon making the leap to the NHL he led the Flyers to 190 wins and three first place finishes in the Patrick Division. In 1988 he was hired as the Chicago Blackhawks new head coach and led them to 153 wins in four seasons and two 1st place finishes in the Norris Division. The following year he signed on with the New York Rangers and led them to a Stanley Cup title in his first season. Since that time he has headed up the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers and Calgary Flames. In 2013 he was hired as the head coach of the Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey league and led them to a Gagarin Cup title in his first year as head coach.
