About Pete Gillen
Pete Gillen is a well-known former college basketball head coach who parlayed that success into a broadcasting career. Gillen is currently an analyst for CBS Sports Network. Previously, he was a head coach for Xavier, Providence, and Virginia. With the Cavaliers, Gillen had won NCAA appearance and four NIT trips in seven years. He had a magical run as the Providence head coach in 1997. The Friars finished second in the Big East, but then made a run to the Elite Eight before losing to eventual national champion Arizona in overtime. Gillen achieved his greatest success at Xavier. The Musketeers went to the NCAA Tournament seven times in nine years and also had seven 20-win seasons. Gillen is a member of the Xavier Sports Hall of Fame. His coaching reputation was built under Digger Phelps at Notre Dame and Rollie Massimino at Villanova. The Brooklyn native started his coaching career at his alma mater Brooklyn Prep and is a member of the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame.
