Phil Hughes

Phil Hughes has come into his own pitching for the Minnesota Twins. In 2014, Hughes went 16-10 with a 3.52 ERA and posted the best strikeout-to-walk ratio in baseball history. The Twins rewarded him with a three-year, $42 million extension. Hughes originally came up to the big leagues as one of the New York Yankees most hyped prospects ever. He originally debuted with the club in 2007, but would not put it all together until 2010. That season, Hughes went 18-8 with a 4.19 ERA and made his only All-Star appearance. Following the season, he threw seven shutout innings in the series-clinching Game 3 of the ALDS against the Twins. Just a year earlier, Hughes had won a World Series with the Yankees. New York selected him 23rd overall in the 2004 MLB Draft out of Foothill High School. The California native is a devout Christian who has Philippians 4:13 inscribed on his glove and the entire verse tattooed on his arm.
