About Phil Mahre
Phil Mahre is one of the great American alpine skiers of all-time. A two-time Olympic medalist in slalom, Mahre won the silver in 1980 and gold in 1984. His 27 World Cup wins rank third among Americans. He also topped the overall World Cup standings in three consecutive years from 1981-1983. Just three U.S. skiers have won three World Cup overalls. Mahre originally joined the U.S. ski team at the age of 15 in 1973 and first competed in the Olympics in 1976. Twin brother Steve also competed in slalom and won an Olympics silver medal in 1984. Both brothers retired shortly after those Games and released a book, No Hill Too Fast. They started the Mahre Training Center in Keystone, Colorado and it is still operational in Deer Valley, Utah. Mahre tried to qualify for U.S. Nationals at age 50 in 2006, but suffered a knee injury.
