After playing four years for the Loyola Marymount University basketball team and earning the WCC Player of the Year Award, Rick Adelman entered the 1968 NBA Draft where he became the 79th overall pick. Rick played in the league from 1968 to 1975 where he racked up 3,579 points, 1,129 rebounds, and 1,606 assists. At the end of the 1975 season Adelman decided it was time to retire from playing the game and he assumed the role of a coach. Ricks first position was with the Chemeketa Community College where he led the team for seven seasons before moving to the NBA with the Portland Trail Blazers. It didnt take long for Rick to become known as one of the best coaches in the league as he became a three time NBA All-Star team head coach on his way to being only the eighth coach to win over 1,000 games in his coaching career.
