Rocky Long

Rocky Long is a retired college football coach who had success at his alma mater, New Mexico, and San Diego State. Long coached the Lobos from 1998-2008 and became the school's winningest coach with 65 victories. He left to become SDSU's defensive coordinator for two seasons before being promoted to head coach in 2011. That set off a successful run where Long run three Mountain West Conference championships and won at least ten games four times. He retired from coaching following the 2019 season and with 81 Aztec victories he ranks second in school history.

Prior to becoming a coach, Long was the starting quarterback for the Lobos. In 1972, Long began his professional career with the BC Lions before he moved to the WFL to play for the Detroit Wheels. Long later returned to the CFL to play for the Lions again where he finished his playing career in 1977. He went into coaching full-time at his alma mater and eventually worked his way into becoming one of great defensive minds in the sport. Long held high-profile defensive coordinator positions at Oregon State and UCLA before becoming a head coach.
