About Rod Carew
Rod Carew is a former first and second baseman in Major League Baseball. While he did not get his start in high school like most others, he did play semi-pro baseball for the Bronx Cavaliers. Carew was discovered by a teammates father who was a scout for the Minnesota Twins, which lead to Carew signing with the Twins to an amateur free agent contract. Rod debuted for the Minnesota Twins in the 1967 season where he was awarded the American League Rookie of the Year award. Also his rookie year was the first year he was elected as an All-Star in this streak of 18 consecutive All-Star game appearances. Rod was awarded the highest honor an MLB player can receive, being inducted as a part the 1991 class of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Carew was the 1977 AL MVP, a 7 time AL batting champion and his famous number 29 was retired with both of the teams he played for in his career, the Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Carew served as an MLB coach to the Angles and Brewers following his playing career before retiring from coaching following the 2001 MLB season.
