About Steve Carlton
Many of you may know Steve Carlton by his nickname, “Lefty”. Born and raised in Miami Florida throughout the 1940’s, Carlton received his nickname later in his life in the MLB as a left-handed pitcher. Throughout his pitching career in the MLB, Lefty pitched for six different teams between 1965 and 1988. However, he was considered a Philly at heart, where he spent the majority of his professional baseball career and won four Cy Young Awards. In fact, Carlton was the first pitcher to win four Cy Young Awards. Carlton has the second-most strikeouts and second-most wins in a single career of any left-handed pitcher. He currently holds the record with the most career balks of any pitcher, along with being the last National League pitcher from any team to pitch more than 300 innings in a season and to win 25 or more games in a season. Carlton, or “Lefty”, will go down in history as one of the best left-handed pitchers of his generation.
