Sandy Koufax

Sanford Koufax, much more commonly recognized as Sandy, is a former professional baseball pitcher in the major leagues. While Koufax was born in Brooklyn, New York in the mid 1930’s, he grew up playing basketball more than baseball and did not fully get into the sport until his high school years. He then went on to become a walk-on for the baseball team at the University of Cincinnati his freshman year and ultimately debuted professionally in 1955 for the Brooklyn Dodgers. A little over a decade in the major leagues left Koufax with much to be proud of. He played the entirety of his career with the Dodgers, although changed ownership and became the Los Angeles Dodgers during that time. The early to mid 1960’s were his most prominent years in the major leagues, as he became the league’s MVP, a two-time World Series MVP and championship title holder, a three-time recipient of the Tripe Crown Award and a three-time recipient of the Cy Young Award throughout that time. In addition, Koufax pitched four no-hitters and the after announcing his retirement in 1966, the Dodgers ultimately retired his jersey number 32. Koufax has since been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and is admired by many for his dedication to the sport of baseball for many, many years and his outstanding pitching skills to show for it.
