About Spud Webb
Spud Webb is a retired professional point guard of the NBA. Webb was not tall and because of that colleges overlooked him even though he had an impressive high school career. Webb attended Midland College where he led the Chaparrals to the junior college national title in 1982. While at Midland, Webb attracted attention from Tom Abatemarco, an assistant coach at NC State. Webb was offered a scholarship to play there. Height always seemed to be an issue for Webb, as most people thought he could never make it in the NBA; but the Detroit Pistons selected Webb in the fourth round of the 1985 NBA Draft. Webb has played for the Rhode Island Gulls of the USBL, the Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings, Minnesota Timberwolves, Mash J. Verona in Italy, the Orlando Magic and the Idaho Stampede of the CBA. Webb is most known for winning a slam-dunk contest despite being the one of the shortest players in NBA history at 5 feet 7 inches. Webb is currently the President of Basketball Operations for the Texas Legends.
