About Todd Van Poppel

Todd Van Poppel was the first overall selection in the 1990 MLB Draft and went on to enjoy a long career in professional baseball with the Oakland Athletics, Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs, and Cincinnati Reds from 1991 to 2004. With an overwhelming fastball and solid secondary pitches, Van Poppel was a solid mid rotation starter and ate up innings for teams throughout the season. During his career he won 40 games and posted 711 strikeouts while contributing as a valuable teammate on and off the field. After he left the game in 2004 he invested in the Denton Outlaws in the Texas Collegiate League and helped them to a league championship in 2005.
