About Ty Detmer
As a five-sport letterman and Texas Player of the Year award winner in football, Ty Detmer was given plenty of opportunities to play college football. He chose to attend Brigham Young University where he took over the starting quarterback position as a redshirt sophomore in 1989 as one of the nation's top QB's. The following year, Detmer put together one of the greatest seasons for a collegiate football player ever, recording 5,188 yards and 41 touchdowns along with 42 NCAA records and capping it off with the Davey O'Brien and Maxwell Awards along with the Heisman Trophy. At the time he finished his college career, Detmer held 59 NCAA records and had compiled over 15,000 passing yards to go with 121 touchdowns in his career. He went on to spend 14 seasons in the NFL with six different teams, predominantly serving as a backup or in a mentor role throughout his career. In 2012, Detmer was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame for his accomplishments at BYU.
