Travels From
After successful careers for both baseball and football at Florida A&M University, Vince Coleman chose to pursue a career in professional baseball and was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1982. Despite being a reliable left fielder and a consistent hitter, Coleman was best known for his ability to steal bases. He came into the League in 1985 by stealing 110 bases, shattering the stolen base record for a rookie. He went on to post above-100 stolen bases for the first 3 years of his career and led the NL in stolen bases for the first 6 years (4 of which led the MLB). His first three seasons are all within the top 6 list for most stolen bases in a season (110, 109, 107) and no player has stolen over 100 bases in a single season since his 1987 performance. Coleman ended his MLB career in 1997 as a 2x All-Star with 752 stolen bases which is 6th on the MLB's all-time list. After his career, he was inducted into the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame.
