About Wilbert Montgomery
Wilbert Montgomery is a current coach who spent nine years as a running back in the NFL. Montgomery spent eight years with the Philadelphia Eagles before one final season with the Detroit Lions. His prowess running the football earned him induction into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 1987. He was a Pro Bowl and All-Pro pick in 1978 and 1979. At the time of his retirement, he held seven Eagles’ rushing records. Only LeSean McCoy has more rushing yards in his Philly career. Montgomery also set the single season rushing record with 1,512 yards in 1979 before McCoy passed that mark in 2013. Since retirement, he has been a successful running backs coach for four different organizations and currently holds that post with the Cleveland Browns. During a nine-year tenure in St. Louis, Montgomery coached both Marshall Faulk and Steven Jackson. He was a college star at Abilene Christian, set an NAIA record for career touchdowns, and led the Wildcats to the NAIA National Championship in 1973. As a result, Montgomery was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996.
