Anthony Carter

Anthony Carter is one of the most celebrated players in Michigan football history, but he also had a lengthy NFL career. Carter played 13 pro seasons, most notably with the Minnesota Vikings. He went to the Pro Bowl in three straight seasons from 1987-89. In 1987, Carter came up big in the Vikings run to the NFC title game. In the wild card win over the Saints, he had a then playoff record 143 punt return yards. Carter followed that up with a ten catch, and then record 227 yard day in an upset win over the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round. His 642 all-purpose yards in that postseason remains a playoff record. Carter finished his NFL career with the Detroit Lions. He started his pro tenure in the now defunct USFL. Carter won the first ever USFL Championship with the Michigan Panthers and was a two-time All-USFL pick. His best days came as a Wolverine however. Carter left Ann Arbor with nearly every school receiving record, was a three-time All-American, and finished four in the voting for the 1982 Heisman Trophy. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001.
