About Dave Clawson
Dave Clawson is a former head football coach at Fordham, Richmond, Bowling Green, and Wake Forest. Clawson got his start in college football as a defensive back at Williams College from 1985 to 1988. After earning his degree he turned his focus to coaching and landed a gig as the quarterbacks, running backs and defensive backs coach at the University of Albany in 1989.
After two seasons at Albany he served as an assistant at the University of Buffalo for two seasons and then headed to Lehigh from 1993 to 1995. In 1996 he was hired as the offensive coordinator at Villanova, and served in that role until being hired as the head coach at Fordham in 1999.
During his five years at the helm at Fordham he led the Rams to 29 wins and a Patriot League Championship in 2002. In 2004 he headed to the University of Richmond and led the Spiders to two Atlantic Ten Conference championships in five seasons. He went on to lead the Bowling Green Falcons to 32 wins from 2009 to 2013 and a Mid-American Conference Championship in 2013.
Clawson was hired as the head coach at Wake Forest in 2014 and led the program for over a decade. The high-water mark of his tenure came in 2021 when the Demon Deacons went 11-3 and he won ACC Coach of the Year honors.
