About John Paxson
Due his nearly three decades as a player, coach and executive with the organization, John Paxson is truly a Chicago Bulls legend. Paxson first became known to basketball fans everywhere as a two-time All-American at Notre Dame. The San Antonio Spurs then selected him in the first round of the 1983 NBA Draft. After two seasons with the Spurs, he would join the Bulls for the first time. Paxson became vital to Chicago's run with Michael Jordan through the late 1980's and early 1990's. He was a member of the franchise's first three championship teams and routinely came through in the clutch with big shots. Paxson is best remembered for his title-clinching three pointer in Game 6 of the 1993 NBA Finals.
Paxson retired from basketball in 1994 and became an assistant coach on Phil Jackson's staff for one season. He then joined the radio broadcast team in Chicago before becoming the Bulls' general manager in 2003. Paxson rebuilt the franchise into a perennial contender during his tenure as GM and was promoted to vice president of basketball operations. He resigned his post in 2020.
