About Mike Sanford
Mike Sanford grew up in Los Altos, California and played quarterback at his home state University of Southern California from 1973 to 1976. After earning his undergraduate degree from USC he joined the Trojan’s coaching staff as a graduate assistant in 1977. Upon earning his master’s degree in 1977 he was hired on as an assistant at San Diego State Community College and went on to serve as an assistant at Army, VMI, Long Beach State, Purdue, USC, and Notre Dame before heading to the NFL as the quarterbacks coach for the Chargers in 1999. After two years in San Diego he returned to the college level as the offensive coordinator at Stanford and Utah before signing on as the head coach at UNLV in 2005. Coach Sanford headed up the UNLV squad from 2005 to 2009 and the served as an associate head coach at Louisville and Utah State fro 2010 to 2012. In 2013 Indiana State hired him as their new head coach, and he’s since led them to an 8-6 record in 2014 and the second round of the NCAA Division I tournament.
