About Nicklas Lidstrom
Nicklas Lindstrom is a retired Swedish professional ice hickey defenseman who played for the Detroit Red Wings of the NHL for 20 years. Lindstrom began his hockey career playing for Avesta, Sweden, playing for Skogsbo SK, before he moved on to play with VIK Vasteras HK of the Swedish Elitserien. The Detroit Red Wings selected Lindstrom as the 53rd overall pick in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. Lindstrom joined the team during the 1991-92 NHL season. During his rookie season, he was selected to the 1992 NHL All-Rookie Team. Lindstrom represented Sweden in the World Championships in 1991, where he won. He was also a major factor in Sweden’s win over Finland in the finals, where he scored the gold medal clinching goal during the 2006 Winter Olympics. On June 30, 2006, it was announced that Lindstrom signed a two-year, $15.2 million contract with the Red Wings. Over his 20 seasons with the Red Wings, Lindstrom won four Stanley Cups, seven James Norris Memorial Trophies, one Conn Smythe Trophy, and he was voted into twelve NHL All-Star Games.
