About Tom Paciorek
Tom Paciorek had an 18-year career in Major League Baseball. He played football and baseball at the University of Houston. On the diamond, Paciorek was part of a Cougars squad that finished as runner-ups at the 1967 College World Series. He is one of three players in program history to have their number retired. Before coming up to the big leagues with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1973, he was named The Sporting News Minor League Player of the Year in 1972. After spending the first five seasons of his career with the Dodgers, Paciorek was traded to the Atlanta Braves. He was a platoon player until breaking out with the Seattle Mariners in 1981. That season he finished second in the American League in batting average and fourth in slugging percentage. Paciorek was named an All-Star and finished tenth in MVP voting. He played for three other teams before retiring following the 1987 season. After leaving the game, Paciorek became an analyst for the Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Seattle Mariners and Atlanta Braves. He is a member of the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame and the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.
